Burning Airlines

Mission: Control!

Regular price $29.99

Mission: Control! is the debut album by Burning Airlines, originally released in 1999 on DeSoto Records, and marks a powerful return of key figures from the influential Washington, D.C. post-hardcore scene. The band features J. Robbins, best known as guitarist and vocalist of Jawbox. Bill Barbot, also of Jawbox and Peter Moffet of Goverment Issue complete the band's line-up.  This background is clearly reflected in the album’s confident songwriting and refined yet forceful sound.

Musically, Mission: Control! delivers tightly wound post-hardcore built on driving bass lines, precise drumming, and angular guitars, balanced by strong melodies and dynamic shifts. The songs are energetic and focused, combining urgency with control in a way that highlights the band’s experience and technical skill. Robbins’ distinctive vocals add intensity while maintaining clarity and purpose.

The album’s themes revolve around structure, pressure, and modern systems of control, reinforcing its sharp musical direction. Clean but punchy production ensures that every element is clearly defined, resulting in a cohesive and engaging listening experience from start to finish.

Mission Control! is widely regarded as an essential late-1990s post-hardcore release and is an ideal choice for listeners who value intelligent, powerful alternative rock rooted in the D.C. tradition. A must-have for fans of Jawbox, Fugazi, and forward-thinking guitar-driven music.
