Chamberlain

Red Weather

Regular price $24.99

Sometimes revisiting the past is the only way to see the future, as the five members of Chamberlain discovered when they reunited in 2018 for a short tour commemorating the 20th anniversary of their final studio album, The Moon My Saddle. What began as a nostalgic trip down memory lane evolved into a creative revival, leading to Red Weather, their first new album since 2000. Produced by longtime friend and My Morning Jacket guitarist Carl Broemel, the 10-track project was largely funded by fans via Kickstarter and features a fresh take on “Some Other Sky,” a song debuted during the reunion tour. Chamberlain, whose members had scattered to different cities for other musical ventures after disbanding in 2000, had previously reunited in 2009 but didn’t pursue new material until the 2018 tour reignited their spark. “Every time we’ve played together over the past decade, we’ve talked about making another album,” recalls guitarist Adam Rubenstein, noting this time they set aside old reservations and let creativity take the lead. Vocalist David Moore adds that unlike their earlier, more meticulous approach, many of the songs on Red Weather were played live in the studio, capturing an immediacy that he finds compelling. The album marks a welcome return for a band that helped define the Midwestern post-hardcore scene, blending echoes of their ‘90s work on albums like Fate’s Got a Driver with a fresh, forward-looking sound shaped by nearly 30 years of friendship. Tracks like the groovy, falsetto-laden “Lion in the Well,” initially not slated for recording until championed by drummer Charlie Walker, showcase a new side of the band, with Moore describing it as “an unabashed, sexy song about those thrilling beginnings of a relationship.”
